Taking care of the Nitty-Gritties of Self-care

Self-care, this word sounds like music to my ears.

As I delve deeper into the process, my respect keeps growing many folds.

When I started on this route, I now realize I was merely skimming the surface of self-care.

Back then; all I wanted to do was get my act together. It simply meant, catering to my emotional, mental and physical well being, by giving myself time to think things over.

The agenda I started with remains the same, but I am learning the approach required to reach my target.

I figured out that I need more tools than just a desire to start working on myself.

Setting up achievable and realistic goals

I start by writing down every little detail that comes to me first thing in the morning. After having a cup of tea, I go over my rough notes, organize and put them all in a to-do-list format. Then I set reminders on my smartphone.

An idea (even if it is on a paper) without a plan is just a wish…

I am not good at planning. Because I have never relied on one before and just floated with the flow. But now things are different. I know I have to do away with things that did not work for me.

Thus planning entered my routine.
I started by planning at a very basic level with things like

·      Call editor XYZ at this time.
·      Go for a walk after 1000 words
·      Tea break at 5 pm
·      Read the drafts before 8 pm

And then gradually I moved to plan things around my work and all that mattered directly or indirectly to my work.

I must add here working on my career goals gave a big boost to my emotions. I have started paying attention to what gives me peace of mind at the same time excites me enough to put all of myself out there to achieve results.

This one, in particular, needed planning of a different sort.
I learnt to plan and put aside time for other activities like exercise, cooking, watching my favourite shows, etc.

Walking, stretching, doing a bit of weights, cardio, etc. has become a part of my routine.

Actively seeking opportunities

In all forms, and I am definitely seeking work opportunities.
But then I also am looking for connecting with motivational speakers and influencers. Trying to gather different experiences I can use as a tool for improving myself.
Cooking workshop? Sure, count me in.

In short, I am seeking opportunities to explore, connect and learn.

All because I care for myself and I believe self-care can help heal lives. Enhance the quality of life lived so far.
